Editor’s Note: Moishe House’s board recently underwent a transfer of leadership at the end of March 2022. We asked our newly elected board chair Stephen Cohen to share his vision for leading Moishe House over the next term.
Q: How long have you been a supporter of Moishe House?
I’ve been involved with Moishe House for about four years, and have served on the Board since March 2019.
Q: What drew you to serve on the Moishe House Board?
I was introduced to Moishe House by one of my children and was impressed by what a meaningful experience it was for him. After I joined one of the Moishe House “On the Road” trips to Europe, I realized how much of an impact the organization could have and how important it was in the lives of so many Jewish young adults, especially overseas.
Q: What initiatives do you have planned for your term as Board Chair?
My term is just starting, so there’s a lot still to be determined. But I’m very focused on pushing our strategic plan to be able to serve and empower as many young Jewish adults globally as we can, and in a way that meets their needs and interests. I am also committed to making sure that the exceptional culture of mission, effectiveness and fun continues to guide the organization.
Q: Where do you see Moishe House in the next five years?
For all of its remarkable success so far, I think the best of Moishe House is still to come. As we emerge from the pandemic, there is no limit to what we can accomplish. Over the next five years I expect us to meaningfully increase our reach in participation, programming and geography.
Q: In your words, how does Moishe House help to ‘bring Judaism to life?’
Moishe House enables young Jewish adults to find community and Jewish life wherever they are and in whatever form has impact and meaning for them. They are bringing Judaism to life every day, and we’re fortunate to be able to support them. Our community builders and users are the future of the Jewish people.
