I was an educator at the Retreatology training in Los Angeles a few weeks ago and, as many of you know at the closing of a retreat, we give everyone the opportunity to go around and give thanks, share feelings, and build each other up.  During the closing, one of the participants mentioned that they were thankful for all the opportunities that Moishe House has provided them. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to have all of these amazing resources at my fingertips. I feel like every day I am getting an email from or hearing about a Jewish organization advertising one of their conferences, classes, or retreats. One of the ways I get to hear about all of these great opportunities is when I am evaluating the scholarship applications.

As an active MHWOW Host, you have access to up to $180/year in funding to participate in a wide range of Jewish education programs outside of Moishe House. In the past 6 months,  I have approved scholarships for hosts to attend JDC trips to Cuba, The Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel (and the US), Hazon food conferences, Wilderness Torah trips, Limmud conferences all over the world, and many more.

Moishe House provides lots of opportunities each year for you to continue your Jewish journey (wherever you’re heading) from 1:1 Jewish Learning for staff to Learning Retreats to our training conferences for hosts and residents to staff support and peer-led retreats.  But our offerings only scratch the surface of what is out there so we created the Jewish Learning Scholarship program to allow you to go out and find the experiences that will help you along in your personal Jewish journey.  

Here are the basics:

What is a Jewish Learning Experience?

For a program to qualify it must include a significant Jewish learning component.  Professional development and political conferences/experiences are usually outside the scope of this Scholarship.

Who Qualifies?

  • Any active MHWOW Host who has completed at least 4 programs in the last 12 months, OR
  • Anyone who was a Moishe House Resident

How does it all work?

To receive a scholarship, you must first apply here at least 30 days before your experience is set to start.  Once you are approved, you will get an email with instructions for how to submit your reimbursement through the Mintranet.  As long as you and your program qualify for a scholarship and there are funds left in the scholarship fund, it’s there for you!
