Immersive Jewish Experiences

WHAT IS A MOISHE HOUSE IMMERSIVE JEWISH EXPERIENCE?

At a Moishe House Immersive Jewish Experience, you can expect everything from group study to singalongs to friendship. We believe in creating a space to ask the most pressing spiritual questions of our lives. We recognize that many of us didn’t grow up leading Jewish programs and rituals and now seek to find our own meaning in them. Through experiential and participatory learning, our dynamic team of educators inspires with the ritual skills and training necessary to inspire others back home.

Our Retreats are significantly subsidized thanks to the generosity of our funders. We convene at high-quality retreat centers throughout the U.S. and bring seasoned, credentialed Jewish educators to teach on a range of topics. Our goal is to give you knowledge and skills that will help you create innovative programming for your Jewish communities at home.

People come to Moishe House with many different experiences of Jewish life. Moishe House is committed to making everyone feel welcome and making it known that they are an important part of the conversation despite the level of their Jewish knowledge, experience, or affiliation with any movement. We do our best to accommodate participants’ needs, including Shomer Shabbat, dietary restrictions and beyond as needed.

Can we talk about the pil (elephant) in the room? Conversations around Israel are rarely easy or comfortable; yet, as Moishe House community members, they come with the territory. Join us for our Jewish Learning Retreat, Threads of Hatikvah: Navigating Israel with 4HQ , where we will deep-dive into how to create and facilitate questions about Israel. The Four Hatikva Questions (4HQ), is a modality used by Moishe House for years as an approach to Israel dialogue that teaches Moishe House residents, hosts, and alumni how to create programs about Israel that spur conversation, thought, and introspection. Participants will leave 4HQ with facilitation skills, not talking points.

Jewish Learning Retreats

Dec 13-15, 2024

As we are saying farewell to the summer and getting ready for the High Holidays season, I’m excited to share with you the news of our upcoming 4 HQ Jewish Learning Retreat: Engaging with Israel through 4 Hatikvah Questions which takes place on December 13-15, in Prague.

Let’s Talk about Israel! The subject of Israel can be a particularly challenging topic to handle, especially since October 7. How do we engage in conversations about subjects that we ourselves do not completely understand? How do we embrace complexity without shying away from the unknown or the controversial? How do we create a safe space for dialogue about issues that might divide us while interacting with them and each other in a way that builds community? How do we engage in healthy arguments and why is it important? We invite you to join the Let’s talk about Israel retreat and engage in a dialogue about Israel through the 4 Hatikvah questions exploring the topics of peoplehood, identity, freedom, and land. Healthy arguments make us smarter and bring us closer. And this retreat will help develop tools and techniques to help you engage in healthy arguments in your home, campus, or community. The aim of this 3-day learning retreat is to equip its participants with foundational knowledge and skills to create and facilitate meaningful programs about Israel for their community, while creating a safe space where community building can happen along divided and complex opinions.

What is 4HQ? The 4HQ framework serves as a template to guide meaningful conversations about Israel, even (and especially) with a divided audience.
